Clear Navigation: What Building My First WordPress Site Taught Me

Course practice — sample post for CISC 306.

If you are visiting Gold Trail for the first time, you should be able to find your way in seconds. That is the lesson I learned building this site: clear navigation matters more than anything else, so every page tells you where you are and where to go next.

When I first set up the site, I just added pages — Home, Work, Skills — without thinking much about how a visitor would move between them. But as soon as I imagined someone landing on the site for the first time, I realized every page should tell them where they are and where to go next.

So I gave the site a simple structure: a Home page that introduces Gold Trail, a Blog that lists every update, and Work and Skills pages for the details. Each one points to the others. If a visitor can always find their way around, the site is doing its job.

That is a lesson I am taking into the app itself: keep it simple, label things clearly, and always give people a way forward.
